Spring time puts creativity into full bloom. Open a window, drop some of your favorite essential oil blends into your room diffuser, and whip up some good-for-you all natural skincare blends in your favorite spring scents.

As the weather warms up, you’ll probably crave light, fresh aromas that soothe, cool and invigorate. Florals, spice oils, and musks balance well as a trio when making homemade perfumes.

For spring, think of botanical blends that combine oils from your favorite, freshly scented herbs and woodland plants. Bright basil, cooling peppermint and earthy rosemary, for example. Cheerful, uplifting citrus oils such as lime, lemon, orange and grapefruit blend nicely with heady, woodsy scents like lavender, vetiver, cedar, eucalyptus.

This recipe makes two 8-oz. jars full of delicious body butter – one for you, and one for a friend. Smells good enough to eat, but don’t be tempted. Essential oils are generally for external use only, unless the label on your oils specifies that it is food grade. Please do not eat shea butter!

What you will need:

1 cup shea butter
3 Tablespoons sweet almond oil
30 drops orange oil such as sweet orange or tangerine
30 drops vanilla absolute oil
Two 8-oz. cosmetic jars with screw-on lids – dark colors work best to protect the potency of the essential oils
Small electric hand beater

Place all ingredients in a mixing bowl. Whip together with hand beater on medium setting for 2-4 minutes until desired consistency is achieved. You can add more shea butter one spoonful at a time if you prefer your body butter to be thicker. Or, thin it out with more sweet almond oil if you like.

Use this moisturizing, anti-oxidant rich body butter as an all-over, after-bath treat for your skin.
